Speed Reading Course – How Much Do I Have to Practice?
Practice is king when it comes to making something become better. Without spending enough time training your speed reading skills you won’t be able to see progress quite soon. No matter how cool the speed reading course that you have started to follow a while ago really is, you still need to make sure that you repeat all the techniques that you are being presented and explain on a daily basis. Sometimes people complain that they lack time to practice these methods. This is just a pathetic excuse. If you want to learn speed reading and you don’t have time to do it, than it means that your understanding of time management is totally wrong. I’ve come to a point where I wanted to improve my speed reading and I did it because time was too important for me to waste it on spending full hours reading unnecessary and unessential things. When you walk on the streets you can practice speed reading by looking around. When reading your morning online magazine you can practice speed reading. When looking through a newspaper you can practice speed reading. The art of reading fast can be practiced almost anywhere and however you want. Finding excuses is not a problem; however, attentively trying to discover ways to better your current level and progress is something that not all people are able to do and that’s a pity.
The time required for you to assimilate the basics can sometimes be estimated from something close to a day. However, if you don’t have the mind eagerness that it is required to get it in 24 hours, maybe a week is going to be necessary to do it. Everyone knows that while it is quite hard and pretty boring someone to tell you that most of the things that you managed to learn in schools are in fact pretty bad for your current speed reading necessities and that you have to forget them. Don’t worry. Speed reading is all about self improvement and when a good teacher tells you that you have to forget pronouncing the words out loud when you read them it means you have to do it. Speed reading takes time because the quality of this learning takes a bunch of full hours of hard work. It’s not easy and if you ever see a program or a “guru” telling you that they can give you everything that you ever wanted or needed to know about reading fast in one single hour it means you are dealing with some kind of scam and it is better to stay away. So, as we mentioned before, getting a general overview of the things that you might be required to understand as basics let’s say can be done in a single day. The rest takes a lot of time.
A speed reading course is designed for fast learners, for those who need to be able to implement the techniques the following day for example. However, while they won’t possibly be able to reach the speed of a professional who has been doing it for several full years, they’ll still manage to save some of their time. Nevertheless, in order to become a speed reading pro, a lot of time is going to be required. First of all, it’s all about taking each individual technique and training it. Sometimes, you are going to first be required to get rid of all your old habits before continuing and that is perfectly true. You cannot build something new if you don’t demolish the old stuff that exists. While others might try to sell you stuff that there is nothing special about reading and that it can be learned extremely fast, they are partially wrong. Speed reading is a thing of practice and the time required for you to start seeing good results directly depends on the time that you will spend learning and applying the methods. If you are looking for some shortcuts you should be looking somewhere else because this is not the way to do it properly. Progress will appear when you manage to clean your old reading habits from the unnecessary things and started to build a new level of comprehension on words, speech, understanding, speed, mind eagerness and essence.
If you want to be able to make an approximate math and realize how much time you are going to be required to learn the art of reading quite fast (well at least in comparison with all the other people out there) you need to realize how much time it was necessary for you to learn how to read properly – Maybe three or four, or maybe even more. Speed reading is no exception. The basics can be explained in several sessions (if you are going to a class) and in several pages of text (in case you just purchased a speed reading eBook). However, in order to develop and to improve your new habits, time is necessary. Hardening them takes a lot of patience and hard work. If you don’t do it daily, the level will decrease. A certain amount of time is necessary for you guys to be able to make it. Some speed reading gurus recommend at least one hour of daily practice for at least two months. I say that you should go for two hours of every day training for the next two years. There is a big difference between just seeing your potential and actually feeling it. If you want to be able to achieve your goal and be able to read those one thousand words in less than one minute, you need to train hard. There are no other secrets. I even suggest you guys to stop wondering, “How much do I need to practice?” Just do it without looking back. The number of days or months shouldn’t bother you so much. You need to able to make speed reading a part of your life, an important reading model of you future.
Practice, practice and once again practice – this is everything that you need to do after getting the basics from a speed reading course.
